Mexico IP Series – Expanding your market

This free United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) event series offers entrepreneurs and businesses an overview on how to protect their intellectual property (IP) when working in the Mexican market.
The Mexico IP series is offered in five parts. Experts from the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the USPTO’s IP Attache, and USPTO Regional Offices, will lead each session, focused on various subjects, including tips for applying for your trademark registration, patent protection, copyrights, and how to enforce your IP in the administrative, civil, and criminal systems. A Q&A session will follow each presentation.
This free webinar series will be held in five sessions: September 13, 20, 27, October 4, and October 11.
Trademark Protection: September 13, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm MT
Should you apply through the Madrid Protocol? What are the new rules for using the mark in Mexico to maintain your registration? How long does it take for a mark to get registered and what is the process? What should you keep in mind when applying?
Patent Protection: September 20, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm MT
Does Mexico have a grace period for inventors to file their patents? How can you accelerate the prosecution of your patent? Why is it important to use your patent once it is granted?
Copyright Protection: September 27, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm MT
Is it necessary to register your copyright? Are there benefits to registering your copyright? When does copyright protection begin in Mexico and how long does it last? Is it possible to file online?
Enforcement: October 4, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm MT
Where do you begin? Should you consider using mediation and arbitration in copyright disputes? What are the pros and cons? How do you monitor the marketplace for unauthorized use of your IP? Should you consider administrative enforcement? What are the strengths and weaknesses of civil proceedings?
Process and Procedures from IMPI: October 11, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm MT
Learn from the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) about IP Protection and Enforcement in Mexico. During this training, you will hear from Héctor Hernández Guerrero, Divisional Director of Intellectual Property Protection, about protecting and enforcing your IP in Mexico.
